Develop the habit of thinking in positive terms and avoid negative thoughts wherever possible

For example, it is better to think “I am training to be healthy, fit and in good shape” than to think “I don’t want to be unhealthy, fat and ugly so I probably better try and do some exercise”.

The first example emphasises the positive while the second example stresses the negative and only then considers an alternative.

In short, be positive.

Never be afraid to look silly or weak if it improves your performance.

It doesn’t matter if (especially when you first start an exercise method) you can only run for a few minutes, lift a couple of kilos or if you break out into a sweat after the first repetition.

It doesn’t matter if you can’t currently even manage a specific exercise at all.

What does matter is that you are training to gain an improvement.

Other people’s opinions of you, whether good or bad, flattering or mocking, are ultimately irrelevant.

What really matters is whether you are prepared to stick with your training and achieve your goals.

Learn from your mistakes.

Mistakes are not a problem unless they are repeated.

Often one can learn more from a mistake than a success.

This is not simply a matter of blind optimism, it is an important part of developing as an athlete and as a human being.

Acknowledging an imperfection is the first step to correcting it and improving performance.
